I’m not a daily runner, but I turned up for SM2SM RUN 2026 ready to move, enjoy the community, and celebrate International Women’s Day with my Cebu Bloggers Society teammates who became my running mates for the morning. If you’re like me — busy with work, cross‑training, and NOT obsessed with running — here’s how I prepared for an 8KM run, and how Cebu’s running scene and local wellness spots supported every step.
Why I Run (Even as a Non‑Runner)
For me, running is about cardio and heart health, but it’s also a personal challenge — and perfect music makes it worthwhile (want a Spotify playlist?). I used to run on a school track and loved racing at Marikina Sports Complex. Adult LIFE and PRIORITIES made me stop running competitively. Now I don’t chase high weekly mileage. I focus on consistency and build fitness with other activities that help running such as mobility work, strength training, combat cardio, and smart recovery. This balanced plan kept me confident and injury‑free for SM2SM RUN. I know with regular training, faster pace, and longer distances become possible, but for me, the goal is just gratitude for a body that can run and being ready whenever a race calls.
My Run Prep Routine (what actually works)/ Local Spots That Support My Non‑Runner Prep
- Quick run routine: I keep 30‑minute runs in my week (mostly on Mondays or whenever I can). Short, frequent runs = consistency over perfection.
- Warm‑up: 5–7 minutes of dynamic moves — leg swings, lunges, ankle circles — to prime the hips and ankles.
- Cool‑down: 5 minutes walking plus gentle stretches for quads, hamstrings, calves, and hips.
- Movement base: I join yoga on the weekends at Dawata Wellness for mobility and breath work; I train Muay Thai 3x/week at Muay Thai Cebu, Studio 32, or Fraction Fitness for cardio, agility, and grit.
- Strength: Light full‑body weight sessions across the week, rotating muscle groups to build balance and protect against injury.
- Recovery therapies: Contrast therapy at Summit Recovery studio at TAFT EAST GATE, red light therapy at Plantation Bay, and whole‑body vibration sessions after I get my spinal adjustments to reduce soreness and speed recovery.
- Body maintenance: Weekly chiropractic care at Form & Function Corrective Chiropractic to keep my spine aligned and my body functioning.
- Nutrition & supplements: Cordyceps for endurance and my Mean Green juice for nutrients and hydration… also lots of coconut water haha
- Mindset: Celebrate small wins, focus on progress, and increase time or pace gradually.

Cebu’s Running Culture — It’s Relentless
What surprised me most was how devoted Cebu’s running community is — runners show up in large numbers for weekend runs and events, undeterred by rain, heat, or setbacks like broken shoes or lost race bibs. The community mixes casual joggers, serious athletes, and supportive groups who cheer each other on—making races feel like celebrations. Local clubs, frequent events, and visible crowd turnout make running a regular, social part of life in the city. I’ve never seen so many runners in one place so consistently…
During the SM2SM run at SM Seaside, over 15,500 aweSM runners took over the streets for #SM2SMRun2026, beating last year’s 14,612 turnout and proving that Cebu’s running community just keeps getting stronger. SM2SM RUN 2026 felt electric because Cebu shows up for movement, community, and causes.
Race Day: Community, Celebration, and Women’s Month
I woke at 3:00 AM, hit snooze, and didn’t get up until 4:30—so I was late. I ended up as one of the last starters for the 8K; the gun went off at 5:30 AM. Running with my Cebu Bloggers Society friends made it special… we celebrated Women’s Month, cheered each other on, and soaked up the community energy. Running with people you know makes the miles fly by and turns a race into a shared memory…
After the run, we picked up our loot bags. No medals for the 8K and 4K runners (only for 12K and 21K) — we ran as media partners this time, but next event I’d love to do the 12K or 21K. I’d just have to wake up earlier (the 21K sometimes starts at 1:00 AM!).
Here are some photos from SM Seaside and snaps with the CBS bloggers.

Where to Gear Up: SM Shopping Has You Covered
SM malls are a convenient one‑stop for running gear. During race season you can often find discounts on shoes, apparel, and accessories — great for upgrading shoes, grabbing moisture‑wick tops, or stocking up on gels. Check the SM Active or sports sections for seasonal promos on trusted brands. I stopped by Reebok before the race and found shoes at 50% off — some pairs were just a little over ₱2,000.

Practical Tips If You’re a Non‑Runner Preparing for a Race
- Don’t try to cram mileage last minute. Stick with cross‑training and a couple of short runs per week.
- Prioritize warm‑ups and cool‑downs to avoid niggles.
- Use recovery tools (contrast baths, red light, vibration) the week before longer efforts.
- Keep nutrition simple: hydration, a light pre‑run snack, and a recovery drink or green juice after.
- Run with friends or a group for safety, pacing, and fun.
Parting Words
SM2SM RUN 2026 reminded me that you don’t need to be a “runner” to enjoy a race. With a holistic prep plan — mobility, combat cardio, light strength, recovery therapies, chiropractic care, and smart nutrition — anyone can show up, run, and celebrate. Big thanks to my Cebu Bloggers Society crew and to everyone who made the day feel like a community celebration.
