Last June 29, Plantation Bay demonstrated its ability to mount a Las Vegas-quality dinner show that included not just Michelin-quality food and drink but an immersive and thoroughly entertaining theme experience.

Plantation Bay’s “Flights of Fancy” truly lived up to its billing as a Culinary Journey Around the World. The evening kicked off with a delightful array of pass-around drinks and canapés representing different countries. We enjoyed a Margarita from Mexico, a vodka-based Paisano from Russia (a unique creation by Plantation Bay), and Manny’s Manhattan, a delightful twist on the classic cocktail.

A pilot’s “in-flight announcement” set the stage for an incredible 12-course tasting menu featuring Plantation Bay’s creative interpretations of dishes from around the globe, including our very own Philippines.

Culinary Highlights

  • Ceviche: Representing Peru, this mild, tropical-flavored dish was an instant crowd favorite.
  • Quiche Crunch: A surprising nod to Libya (you’ll have to ask the resort for the story behind this one!).
  • Crabmeat Raviolo: Claimed by the servers to be even better than what you’d find in Italy.

In this Flight of Amuse-Bouches, Plantation Bay pushed boundaries, presenting three contrasting, unrelated dishes that created a new kind of food symphony, constantly surprising the palate.

The Flight of Filipino Flavors was a standout, featuring three “mini rice bowls” infused with concentrated essence of Cebu Lechon, Bicol Express, and Kare-kare, each with a unique twist from another country.

The Charbroiled Flight (the main course) was equally impressive:

  • Shrimp off the Barbie: An elegant take on the Australian staple.
  • Blackened Beef: As tender and flavorful as the best Nebraska steak.
  • Nuclear Kagoshima Wagyu: This dish was “nuclear” because it was crispy on the outside and explosively flavorful on the inside, a perfect blend of different cultural influences.

Dance Performances

Between the Flights, we were treated to three spectacular dance shows, each inspired by a different part of the world: Britain, the Sahara, and Brazil. These performances ranged from the titillating to the intimate to the grandiose, rivaling anything you’d see in a top-tier Las Vegas or New York dinner club.

A New Resort Experience

With “Flights of Fancy,” Plantation Bay has not only redefined the 4×3 dinner menu but also created a unique resort experience.

This event has been the talk of the town, with attendees still debating their favorite dishes. Many who missed out are eagerly asking if there will be a sequel.
